BMW E46 M3 SMG 420G Bellhousing Manual Conversion Service
MSportParts now offers an SMG Bellhousing Conversion Service!
All SMG conversions now include the sensor delete kit.
The process for this service is as follows:
Professional machine shop work on a proper mill (no hand drilling).
One hour exterior and interior clean.
Torsion spring, spring stud, and bearing installation.
Final clean and torque check.
Turn around time is 3-7 working days (M-F) from the date of delivery.
No Cores Offered: What you send in is what you will get back. You will not receive someone's corroded bellhousing in place of your pristine part, and vice-versa.
Proper OE Feel: Original BMW feel is critical for a proper conversion. The main shifter torsion spring and detents are setup to match the original feel intended from the factory.
Detent Cap: An M22 thread is tapped into the detent hole where an OE E46 M3 differential drain plug is used instead of the original Getrag manual transmission rubber cap and circlip. This is done for ease of install and final aesthetics. The rubber caps are fragile and often get torn or bent in the process. The differential drain plug is a perfect fit and has the correct depth for proper detent spring compression. If you prefer your bellhousing to be exactly how Getrag would have done it, Kevin (@limited.slip on Instagram) offers this service but uses the rubber caps.
Cleaning: I carefully clean and do my best to remove all traces of grease and grime, but cannot undo corrosion, scratches, etc. All bearings are thoroughly cleaned, dried, and then lubricated with transmission fluid. A final air blast process is done before packaging. All bellhousings are carefully handled to not add any unwanted damage.
